With everybody talking about worklife balance, Lawson Construction has the answer. By keeping business in the family, work and life are one and the same!

Frank Lawson and wife Angeline manage the company from a base in the Vale of Clwyd – but to Site Manager FG and Admin Assistant Amanda, the two bosses are better known as Mum and Dad. With three nephews out on site and a brother-in-law driving one of the wagons, it’s left to 12 year old niece, Gracie Lee – the youngest member of the family to run the company errands.

Since launching in 2000, Lawson Construction has come a long way, growing their workforce from 3 to 11, and expanding the business to become the main contractor on major construction sites. The turning point came in 2003, when Angeline Lawson joined the family business as Office Manager. “I turned to the Local Supplier Development Project for expert advice on how to tackle large tendering projects and market the company. We haven’t looked back!” she smiles. From their record turnover of £450,000 in 2003, all profits were reinvested in training and new equipment to bring the company up to date with latest technology and developments. As Investors in People, Lawson Construction insists all staff receive NVQ training and are Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) accredited. Building on their core business of civil engineering and landscaping, the community portfolio has been expanded to include specialist services, such as drain jetting, line marking, and CCTV.

Recent contracts with Local Authorities in Denbighshire and Flintshire are further ecidence that Lawson Construction has arrived. Angeline Lawson acknowledges the contribution made by LSDP. “Their assistance with the tendering process put us on the ladder with local authorities.”  She reflects. “ Without them we would not be where we are today.”
